Many renowned directors, such as Yasmin Ahmad, Hayao Miyazaki, James Cameron, Edgar Wright, and
Wes Anderson, had no formal filmmaking training. Instead, their backgrounds include self-driven learning
or skills training before they ventured into filmmaking. Their commitment to self-improvement and learning
through experience stands out, with each finding a unique voice in the craft. So, what do you guys think?
Our POV, a degree in related fields does provide foundational knowledge in both the technical and
creative aspects of various filmmaking roles. However, practical experience, apprenticeships, networking,
and portfolio building are crucial, often outweighing the importance of formal education. Thoughts?
